Dilemma of MPhil students

STUDENTS enrolled in MS/M.Phil can take either thesis or course work to complete the programme. Previously, the Higher Education Commission had made the thesis mandatory for those M.Phil students who intend to take admission in PhD. This information was incorporated in the document containing minimum criteria for M.Phil/PhD programmes and posted on the HEC website. Subsequently, this clause was removed on the document in question but no formal notification to this effect has been issued by the HEC. This has left ambiguity all around. While some universities are offering admission in PhD programmes to those students who opted for course work instead of thesis, others are not doing the same. This ambiguity could have been avoided had the HEC followed the established procedure of amending a policy document through proper notification. HEC authorities are requested to clarify the position and if thesis is not compulsory, then universities may be advised not to refuse admissio

Wikipedia Black out: The site closes for 24 hours

Why is Wikipedia blacked-out? Wikipedia is protesting against SOPA and PIPA by blacking out the English Wikipedia for 24 hours, beginning at midnight January 18, Eastern Time. Readers who come to English Wikipedia during the blackout will not be able to read the encyclopedia. Instead, you will see messages intended to raise awareness about SOPA and PIPA, encouraging you to share your views with your representatives, and with each other on social media. What are SOPA and PIPA? SOPA and PIPA represent two bills in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate respectively. SOPA is short for the "Stop Online Piracy Act," and PIPA is an acronym for the "Protect IP Act." ("IP" stands for "intellectual property.") In short, these bills are efforts to stop copyright infringement committed by foreign web sites, but, in our opinion, they do so in a way that actually infringes free expression while harming the Internet.
