FUUAST: International Conference on Plant Ecology from November 6

KARACHI The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology’s (FUUAST) botany department will organize an international conference on plant ecology from November 6. The organizer  Prof. Dr Moinuddin Ahmed, said that experts have been invited to share their research. FUUAST Student gets "The Best Writer Award"

Rawalpindi The best writer award was given to Waqar Aziz of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology in the week long drama competition in connection with the Punjab Youth Festival concluded at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Monday October 1, 2012. The title of FUUAST drama was “Umeed Abhi Baki Hai” and was written and directed by Waqas Aziz. The main subject of the drama was fanaticism and social evils and cure of these evils was education. Waqas Aziz (FUUAST) and Saba Manzoor were the comperes of the ceremony. Students of the Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) staged a play titled ‘Ye Hosla Kaisey Rukay’ on the last day. The 51st death anniversary of Baba-e-Urdu Molvi Abdul Haq

KARACHI The 51st death anniversary of Baba-e-Urdu Molvi Abdul Haq will be observed on August 16. This was announced in a statement of Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu Pakistan issued here on Monday. It said that Administrator Karachi, Muhammad Hussain Syed, will lay floral wreath at the mazar of Baba-i-Urdu and will offer Fateha. The president and office bearers of Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu Pakistan will also lay floral wreath and offer Fateha. The faculty and students of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) and people from various walks of life would also visit the mazar to pay respect to Baba-i-Urdu Molvi Abdul Haq. FUUAST: Workshop on Smart Grid Technology

Islamabad The workshop was organised by the Electrical Engineering Department of the university in collaboration with University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, USA. More than 60 participants, including external faculty members, researchers, telecommunication professionals and students attended the training workshop. Professor Dr Raziq Yaqoob gave lectures. In the concluding ceremony, special guest member telecommunication, Ministry of IT, Dr Syed Ismeel Shah, said that they have to bring major reforms in the IT sector to make the country at par with international standards.

Media: Public Interest is top priority

Karachi Almost all the speakers on the second day of a three-day media conference, themed “Media Agenda 2012”, on Wednesday expressed concern over the changing trends in journalistic norms, the falling standards of the language and the market-oriented pursuit the field is turning into. The conference is being held under the joint aegis of the Federal Urdu University of Arts Science, and Technology (Fuuast) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Zaffar Abbas, the editor of Dawn, stressed the need for objectivity in reporting and journalism. He said that what was supreme was public interest and if public interest demanded uncensored publication of a news story, it must be done. Jawed Naqvi, Dawn’s correspondent in New Dehli, said that freedom of the press to a great extent was a myth as there would only be freedom to the extent that the newspaper owner wanted. FUUAST: International conference on exploring the media’s agenda

KARACHI:  A three-day international conference on exploring the media’s agenda in contemporary times would begin at the Arts Council today. The conference is being organised by the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Awaz Institute of Media Sciences, the Karachi Press Club and Pakistan International Airlines. “The conference will bring together journalists from print and electronic media, as well as experts from Pakistan, India, United Kingdom and the United States,” said Prof. Dr Tauseef Ahmed Khan, head of FUUAST’s mass communication department. FUUAST spokesperson Irum Fazal said that Dawn Group of Publications chief executive Hameed Haroon would be the chief guest of the inaugural session today. Impact of corporatism, glamorisation on media discussed

KARACHI, May 29: The impact of globalisation, corporatism and glamourisation on the media, interference by the management and the government in editorial content and journalists’ credibility were just some of the topics touched upon by senior media persons speaking at the third international conference organised by the Mass Communications Department of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology at the Arts Council here on Tuesday. Day one of the three-day conference called ‘Media Agenda 2012’ saw the holding of three sessions. FUUAST participates in Spring Splash 2012 Festival

Islamabad Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology Islamabad campus participates in Spring Splash 2012, a week-long festivity comprising several inter-university competitions, organised by Preston University, kicked off in Islamabad on Thursday April 12, 2012, says a press release. SZABIST Declamation Contest: FUUAST secures "Position"

Karachi Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) organized an inter-faculty declamation contest at its premises here. The students of over a dozen government and private sector universities participated in the event. Habib Feroze of the University of Karachi won the first position in the competition. Ms. Saadia Hameed of the Dow University of Health Science remained second. The third position went to Ms. Shahzadi Kanwal of the federal Urdu University. FUUAST Documentary Festival

Karachi A Documentary Festival was organised at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST). An official of the institution said here on Tuesday, 28th February 2012, that the event was held under the auspices of the University’s Department of Mass Communications. As many as nine documentaries covering different topics were also screened on the occasion. President of Karachi Press Club (KPC), Tahir Hassan Khan, speaking on the occasion said that impartation of practical training to the students would be of immense benefit to them for preparing them for the careers. LAHORE: International Book Fair 2012

The 26th Lahore International Book Fair 2012 (3 - 7 Feb) which comprised of two sections, book fair and education fair, opened at the Expo Centre on Friday. The book lovers of all ages and students admired the efforts made by the Lahore International Book Fair (LIBF) Trust. The book fair was inaugurated by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. LIBF Trust Chairman Zubair Saeed and Secretary Najam Sethi were also present at the occasion. The book fair hall consisted of 240 book stalls, representing different book shops and information centers, while 125 stalls were taken by different educational institutions from all over Pakistan. The fair would continue for three days and end on Sunday at 8:00 pm.
